Emily Sumpena, a senior at Westview High School, is 2017-2018 President of Catalyst for Success. From being Treasurer her sophomore year and Vice President her junior year, Catalyst for Success has shaped her into a confident leader and a compassionate individual. Now as President, she hopes to continue sharing her passion and knowledge in science and spread STEM literacy to more diverse and large-scale populations. Other than her active participation in science, she enjoys spreading her love of music to the community by being a violist, President and viola section leader of Westview GOLD Orchestra, and a dedicated pianist. On the other hand, if you cannot find Emily in any of the science or music classrooms on campus, you will most definitely find her smiles at Scripps Memorial Hospital, where she volunteers and serves weekly. In this school year, she hopes to continue fueling the undying excitement of the youth towards chemical reactions and "magic tricks" throughout local classrooms, libraries, and science fairs.
